A Stormy Night

Mother Nature put on quite a show tonight. Lightning, thunder, hail, and rain, rain, rain. Now, we never  complain about the rain, because the farmers need it for their wheat. They can do without the hail, however. We need it for our stock ponds where the horses and cattle drink. And let me tell you, the ponds were getting pretty low.

So Dad and I popped some popcorn, got sodas, and slid the High School Musical DVD into the player. Dad built a fire in the fireplace, even though it wasn’t cold, and we watched the movie and had a great time. Lucky and Wiggles chased popcorn I tossed in the air. Cleo, in typical cat fashion, curled in front of the fire and every once in a while opened her eyes long enough to give us a look. The kind only a cat can give.

Dad and I  hardly thought of Mom, at least we never mentioned her.

We had fun. But it wasn’t the same. How long does it take to get used to being a family of two rather than three?

Bedtime now.

A rainy night makes me sleep like a baby. As long as the thunder is in the distance, and the lightning too.

Sweet dreams.
