It Won’t Be The Same

Thanksgiving. This year. It won’t be the same. Before the big split, the cook Louise would fix a turkey and all the trimmings. The Garret family, Will, Sully, and their folks, came over. My grandparents … Mom … correction … Liz’s mom and dad came from California and stayed the weekend. Instead of coming here this year, they’re going to Dallas where Liz and her boy toy live. Liz tried to talk me into spending the weekend in Dallas. Yeah, right. My dad’s parents have been dead since I was three. Both were killed in a car accident.

Everything’s changed. This year, Will’s mom is cooking. Dad gave Louise the holiday off. She wasn’t happy. She considers us her family, so she’s helping Will’s mom. It will seem strange eating away from home. It should be interesting. Sully said he’s baking a new kind of dessert. A big secret. I may just pass on sweets, unless Louise bakes her famous chocolate cake.

I do have things to be thankful for. My dad. My friends. My babies.

I wonder what Mom … Liz … is thankful for.

Feeling down. Maybe Louise has a slice of cake for me. She usually does.
